This month’s Play! by Sephora subscription box has arrived! Being that September is here and everyone is obsessed with fall, this box’s theme follows suit. There were many variations sent out to subscribers this month, and the one I received was chock full of staple beauty products.
As usual, the products come bundled in a cute bag, and the box includes an information sheet with details on everything you need to know.
If you take the Play card into a Sephora store, they will give you 50 extra Beauty Insider points. (Side note: I wish they would let you use these online as well.)
Let’s take a closer look at the box I received!
The scent in this hair mask is delicious! I was reminded of pistachios while using it, but the scent is actually the matcha butter. I really enjoyed using this product. It made my hair very soft and smooth, and my only disappointment is that I may only get a few uses out of this sample. The light green color of the cream is also a fun touch.
The Gimme Brow is a product I’ve used before, and in fact I have this exact size which I took to Disney with me. It’s not my favorite way to do my brows since I prefer a powder or pencil, but this does the trick in a pinch. For some reason I was sent shade 3 which is quite dark. I had to use a light hand with this color.
This Laura Mercier lipstick really surprised me. I always get a little worried about lip colors that come in subscription boxes because so few end up being wearable for me. This one has a dry formula which means it doesn’t apply in a creamy manner. However, this also means that it stays on the lips and barely transfers. It has a slight metallic sheen to it, and the color is very pretty. I can see pulling this out for special occasions and having fun with it.
I love Belif products! In fact, I have quite a collection of deluxe samples just like this in my collection right now. This cream is extremely moisturizing. If it’s the dead of winter or you’re battling stubborn dry skin, this is a great solution. It’s extremely thick and I would recommend using at night rather than under makeup. I’m happy to have another sample in my collection for the coming winter months.
I was happy to see that Sephora included the Stay All Day liner in this box because I’ve never tried it before. I know a lot of people talk about this being their holy grail liquid liner, so I wanted to see how it would work out. The applicator was much stiffer than the felt/brush tip liners I’ve become accustomed to which provided a good amount of control. I did find this formula to be a bit on the dry side. I’m not sure I would choose this over the Kat von D, but I will continue playing with it. In the past I’ve found that these types of eyeliner deluxe samples last a LONG time, so I have a while to figure it out!
This is another product I’ve tried before, and luckily I really do enjoy this fragrance. In fact, I’ve found that I like a lot of the Stella McCartney fragrances. This one is light and bright with some complexity underneath. I don’t love it enough to buy the full size, but I do enjoy getting the samples.
