Welcome to another installment of One Week One Palette! If you’re just joining us, in this series I’m focusing on one palette per week and giving mini reviews after the fact. I’ve been working on this series since the beginning of the year, and I’ve been having fun cycling through all my palettes and giving them each a fair chance.
In this installment, we’ll take a look at another BoxyCharm palette as well as a drugstore classic.
When this palette first arrived from BoxyCharm a few months back, I was immediately excited. If you’ve been reading One Week One Palette for a while, you may remember that I absolutely love shimmer eyeshadows – the more shimmery the better. It was obvious right away that these shadows were beautiful. The colors are vibrant, the shimmer is off the charts and the formula is buttery smooth.
The week of dedicated use did not change my opinion on these shadows. The color selection gives you a lot of options, and I was also able to create several daytime, work-appropriate looks using this palette. Of course, as this is an all shimmer palette, I did have to pull from other palettes to get a few mattes to add into the look. This doesn’t bother me as long as the shimmers are amazing, and in this case they are. On one occasion, I layered the lightest color over a Laura Mercier Caviar Stick and it kicked up the vibrancy even more. I love when subscription boxes send out high quality palettes like this one!
I happened to be at the grocery store recently and found myself in the cosmetics aisle. While there, I happened to spot the Wet n Wild section and the iconic Comfort Zone palette. I’ve heard rave reviews on this palette for years, but hadn’t tried it until this week in the project.
Even though some of these shadows are less shimmery than others, there still are not any true mattes in here. I did use some of the lighter colors for transition and brow bone highlights and they seemed to work fine. However, I wanted to use those same colors for all over the lid so it became an issue of choosing which colors to use where. I really did enjoy the blue/brown duochrome in the bottom right of the palette. It’s such a fun shade!
The quality in the Comfort Zone palette is very nice, and Wet n Wild is of course one of the most affordable drugstore brands out there. Is it my favorite palette? No. But it’s one that I will reach for and keep in rotation in my collection.
